Additional information

The Isle of Man has issued commemorative 50 pence pieces in non-standard sizes before, but this one — at 54.60 mm — sits considerably outside the heptagonal cupro-nickel format familiar to British collectors. The VE Day 75th anniversary in 2020 prompted a wave of issues across Crown Dependencies, with the Isle of Man Treasury among the more prolific contributors. Unlike the Royal Mint's official UK commemoratives, Manx issues carry no obligation to legal tender status in Great Britain, giving the Treasury latitude to produce in weights and dimensions calibrated to the bullion and collector markets rather than circulation.
