Guernsey has operated as a Crown Dependency with the right to issue its own coinage since a Privy Council Order of 1876, though the island's numismatic output remained modest until the commemorative boom of the late twentieth century accelerated it considerably. By the 2020s, the States of Guernsey had contracted most production to the Pobjoy Mint and similar private operators, issuing themed series with limited connection to the island's actual monetary circulation. This piece never entered circulation in any meaningful sense — it was sold directly into the collector market.
