The Griffin of Edward III is the fourth in a series of ten coins issued by Jersey commemorating the Queen's Beasts — heraldic supporters drawn from the arms of English monarchs adopted as personal badges over centuries. Edward III's griffin, a creature he used as a personal badge in the 14th century, is better known today through its inclusion among the ten beasts that flanked the Queen's canopy at the 1953 coronation. Jersey issued this as part of that commemorative framework, not as circulating currency.
