Pitcairn Islands legal tender exists almost entirely as a collector vehicle — the island's population of roughly 40 people conducts daily life in New Zealand dollars. The 2022 licensing deal with CCA and B, LLC, the American company that owns the Elf on the Shelf trademark, is one of dozens of novelty issues the Pitcairn administration has authorized through external minting partners, a revenue arrangement that has nothing to do with the island itself.
