背面描述 A finely detailed tennis ball is depicted in the upper right field, partially overlapping a diagonal net rendered in high relief that extends across the coin's field, evoking the dynamic moment of play. The official London 2012 Olympic Games logo, incorporating the Olympic rings, appears in the upper left, anchoring the design to the Games. The denomination 50 PENCE is inscribed in bold letters along the lower exergue. The composition, designed by Tracy Baines, conveys the sport of tennis through geometric interplay of net, ball, and open field.

附加信息

Issued to mark the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, which coincidentally fell during London's Olympic year — the tournament that summer saw Andy Murray reach the men's final, the first British finalist since Bunny Austin in 1938. The piedfort format, struck at twice the standard thickness, was a Royal Mint practice revived in the 1980s for collector issues after a gap of several centuries.

At 22-carat in a piedfort format, the gold content here is substantial for a 50p denomination piece, and production numbers were tightly controlled.
