Team GB's participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics — held in 2021 after a year's delay forced by the COVID-19 pandemic — was commemorated by the Royal Mint through a series of 50p issues, with the piedfort format doubling the standard flan thickness to produce a piece intended strictly for collectors rather than circulation.
