| Obverse lettering | ELIZABETH II BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY · IRB · FIFTY PENCE · 2016 |
| Reverse description | The reverse displays a full-color depiction of a Chieftain main battle tank in green and brown camouflage livery, shown in three-quarter view against a sandy desert field rendered in the gold-plated background. To the left of the tank, a bold vertical band of raised chevron track-tread impressions runs the length of the design, evoking tank tracks in the dirt. The word 'CHIEFTAIN' is inscribed vertically along the left border of the field, in incuse lettering within the track design element. |

Guernsey's coin program has long exploited the island's World War II occupation history for commemorative purposes, but the Chieftain has no connection to that chapter — it was the British Army's main battle tank from 1966 through the mid-1990s, seeing export service with Iran under the Shah before the 1979 revolution abruptly terminated that contract and left hundreds of undelivered hulls in limbo. The KM# 247b designation indicates this gold-plated copper version is one of several finish variants struck from the same dies.
