Reverse description Two competitive kayakers in dynamic action are depicted in high relief at centre, both athletes paddling vigorously with their oars raised, wearing helmets and numbered competition bibs, set against a stylised waterway landscape. Superimposed in the lower field is a bold Union Flag motif rendered in incuse lines, providing a strong patriotic backdrop. The word OLYMPIC arcs across the upper field in bold raised lettering, while the denomination numeral 50 appears in the lower exergual area. The overall composition combines athletic energy with national symbolism in a finely detailed proof finish.

Additional information

Gibraltar has issued Olympic-themed 50 pence pieces since the 1992 Barcelona Games, making it one of the longest-running non-participating territory programs in the commemorative coin market. The territory has no Olympic team of its own, which has never slowed production.

The 2021 Tokyo Games were delayed a full year due to the COVID-19 pandemic — the only Olympic postponement in history not caused by war.
