Reverse description The reverse design by Mary Milner-Dickens depicts a standing suffragette figure in Edwardian dress, chained to iron railings in a scene evoking the militant campaign for women's enfranchisement. To the right of the central figure, a ballot paper marked with a cross is prominently featured alongside the rallying inscription GIVE WOMEN THE VOTE. The denomination 50 PENCE appears to the left of the composition, while the commemorative dates 1903 and 2003 flank the lower portion of the design, marking the centenary of the Women's Social and Political Union. The double-thickness piedfort flan gives particular depth and sharpness to the sculptural relief of this commemorative reverse.
