The 2007 date marks the centenary of Baden-Powell's experimental camp on Brownsea Island in Dorset, where he gathered 22 boys in August 1907 to test the ideas that would become Scouting. The Royal Mint issued this gold proof as part of a broader commemorative programme for that anniversary. The extended date range through 2009 reflects continued sales rather than separate annual strikings — the Mint kept the issue available across multiple years to meet collector demand.
