Issued to mark Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee, this piece commemorates fifty years on the throne — a reign that, for the Falkland Islands, carried particular weight after the 1982 Argentine invasion and the British military response that secured the islands' continued status as a Crown dependency. The colored variant was produced alongside a standard version, a practice that had become common in the commemorative market by the early 2000s as mints competed for collector revenue.
KM#79a.1 distinguishes the colored proof from its uncolored counterpart in the Krause listings.
