Beschrijving keerzijde Central device depicts a group portrait of the British Royal Family standing on a draped and fringed ceremonial balcony, commemorating Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee in 2002. The Queen, shown crowned and wearing a necklace, is positioned centrally and appears to be waving, surrounded by several members of the Royal Family including uniformed figures and younger royals. Above the group, a festive arc of bunting flags rendered in applied color enamel in red, white, and blue arches across the upper field. The legend THE GOLDEN JUBILEE curves along the lower periphery in bold raised lettering.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee, this piece is one of several colored commemoratives the Falkland Islands released that year capitalizing on the Islands' unusually strong royalist sentiment — a loyalty sharpened, without question, by the 1982 Argentine invasion and the British military response that followed. The applied color was surface-printed post-strike, a process that kept production costs low but leaves these pieces vulnerable to flaking with even modest handling.
