Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse depicts two athletes in a double scull rowing boat, rendered in a dynamic linear style with the oars extended across the field, occupying the right portion of the design. The Olympic values EXCELLENCE, FRIENDSHIP, FAIR PLAY, and RESPECT are inscribed in bold, graduated lettering that fills the left and central field in a cascading typographic arrangement. The official London 2012 Olympic Games logo, incorporating the Olympic rings, appears prominently at the top of the field. The denomination 50 PENCE is inscribed along the lower edge in raised lettering.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the London 2012 Olympics, this piece is part of the Royal Mint's largest commemorative program in its history — 29 sports depicted across cupro-nickel, silver, and gold strikes. The gold proof fifty pence is among the lowest-mintage formats in the series, with production figures constrained by collector demand projections that proved, in several sports, to be overly conservative.

Rowing has particular resonance in British Olympic history given the dominance of Redgrave and Pinsent across four consecutive Games, though the coin predates any specific 2012 result by design necessity.
