Guernsey has issued commemorative fifty pence pieces under licensing arrangements that allow considerable creative latitude, and this 2013 rocket-themed piece falls squarely into that category. The pad-printing process — essentially a form of ink transfer used in industrial manufacturing — was adopted by several small island mints around this period as a way to achieve full-color surface decoration without the cost of enameling.
Gold-plated copper with pad-printed color occupies an awkward middle ground in collector markets: not base enough to ignore, not precious enough to grade.
