Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of Queen Victoria's death in January 1901, this piece is one of several commemorative 50 pence coins Ascension Island produced in the early 2000s under the authority of Saint Helena's administration. Ascension has no permanent indigenous population — its residents are rotating contract workers and military personnel — meaning these issues were never subject to genuine circulation demand and exist almost entirely as collector items from the point of minting.
