| Additional information |
Issued to mark Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee, this coin belongs to a flood of Commonwealth commemoratives produced in 2002 — the Falkland Islands among dozens of territories that contracted the Pobjoy Mint or the Royal Mint's commercial arm for jubilee pieces. The Falklands' participation carried particular political weight: the islands had been the site of a shooting war just twenty years earlier, and their continued loyalty to the Crown was not taken for granted in London during the tense years following the 1982 conflict.
The applied color finish, added post-strike, is a Pobjoy specialty of this period and accounts for the "a.1" suffix in the KM reference.
