Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory so remote it has no airstrip and receives supply ships only a handful of times per year, issues coins primarily as collector revenue rather than circulating currency. This piece marks the Queen Mother's centenary — she reached 100 in August 2000, the first British queen consort to do so. The island's total permanent population at the time was under 300 people.
