The Isle of Man has long used its status as a Crown Dependency — outside the United Kingdom but owing allegiance to the Crown — to issue commemorative coinage far more aggressively than any Royal Mint would sanction. The 2022 Platinum Jubilee marked 70 years of Elizabeth II's reign, the longest in British history, and the Manx authorities produced a wide range of denominations and finishes to mark it. She died on 8 September 2022, roughly eight months after this piece entered circulation.
