The Isle of Man has long exploited its fiscal autonomy to issue commemorative coinage well outside the constraints of Royal Mint output, and its Peter Pan series draws on a genuine territorial connection: J.M. Barrie assigned the copyright to Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1929, but the Isle of Man has separately claimed cultural affinity with the story through various licensing arrangements over the decades. The colourised variant — KM#1664.1 against the uncoloured 1664 — was produced by applying selective ink after striking, a post-mint process that disqualifies these pieces from most serious registry submissions.
