Issued as part of Gibraltar's long-running programme of novelty 50 pence pieces, this coin commemorates Mr. Stink, the 2009 children's novel by David Walliams. Gibraltar has used the 50 pence format aggressively for licensing deals since the 1990s, producing themed issues tied to everything from classic literature to popular television — a revenue strategy that has little to do with circulation and everything to do with the collector and gift market.
