Pobjoy Mint has produced wildlife-themed coinage for British Overseas Territories and dependent states since the 1970s, operating under royal licence and frequently issuing for smaller jurisdictions — the British Indian Ocean Territory, the Cayman Islands, and others — that lack their own minting infrastructure. This piece almost certainly falls within one of those issuing arrangements, though the KM#58a reference places it within a short series rather than as a standalone release.
The longnose butterflyfish (Forcipiger flavissimus) holds the distinction of having one of the longest snouts relative to body size of any reef fish, an adaptation for extracting prey from coral crevices.
