Issued to commemorate the liberation of the Falkland Islands following the Argentine occupation and the brief but costly war of April–June 1982, this gold proof was struck in the same year the conflict ended. The speed of production is notable — the Liberation issues were commissioned and released while the diplomatic fallout was still unresolved and Argentine prisoners were only just being repatriated.
The 47.54g .917 gold specification places this among the heavier crown-sized proof issues of the period, clearly aimed at the collector and commemorative market rather than any circulation function.
