The Isle of Man has operated as a prolific proof issuer since the 1970s, frequently licensing British royal themes that the Royal Mint itself does not produce in gold at this specification. This particular piece keys off the Imperial State Crown, which was remade in 1937 for George VI's coronation and has been worn by Elizabeth II at every State Opening of Parliament since 1952 — with the exception of 2017, when deteriorating health led to an informal ceremony.
