The Golden Arrow was one of Britain's most celebrated named express services, running between London Victoria and Paris via Folkestone and Calais from 1929 until its final run in September 1972. At its prewar peak it operated as an all-Pullman, all-first-class service with a dedicated ferry crossing, catering almost exclusively to wealthy travellers and diplomats. Guernsey's position in the Channel Islands made it a natural issuer of transport commemoratives with cross-Channel resonance.
The pad-printed gold-plating process used here is a post-strike surface application, not an electroplating or minting technique — a distinction relevant to long-term surface preservation.
