| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted as a mature portrait with a diademed and elaborately coiffed head, after the fourth definitive portrait modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend ELIZABETH·II·D·G REG·F·D· arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 2011 positioned at the lower right and the engraver's initials IRB incuse below the truncation of the neck. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a flat, polished field, consistent with proof manufacture. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
One of fourteen Paralympic sports commemorated by the Royal Mint in its 2011 50p series — the largest single coin programme in the Mint's history at the time. Goalball, a sport invented specifically for visually impaired athletes and played in near-total silence so competitors can track the bell-filled ball by sound, was an unusual choice that drew attention to a discipline almost entirely unknown outside Paralympic circles.
The gold proof version was struck to a mintage of 150 pieces.
