| Reverse description | Father Christmas seated in a flying sleigh laden with gift-wrapped packages, drawn by two leaping reindeer across a mirror-polished field. A stylised snow-dusted cityscape occupies the lower exergue, framed on either side by sprigs of holly with berries. The word CHRISTMAS arcs prominently across the upper legend, and the denomination numeral 50 appears at the base, flanked by additional holly sprigs. |

| Additional information |
Gibraltar's annual Christmas 50p series launched in 1994 and ran through the early 2000s, with each year's reverse depicting a different nativity or seasonal scene — a deliberate strategy by the Gibraltar government to generate collector revenue rather than circulating coinage. The 1997 silver proof strikes were produced in limited numbers for the collector market exclusively, never entering circulation.
KM#606a distinguishes the silver proof from the cupro-nickel circulation strike catalogued separately.
