| Additional information |
Guernsey has issued commemorative 50 pence pieces with some regularity since the 1990s, largely targeting the collector market rather than general circulation. This Christmas Cracker issue is one of several seasonal pieces produced by the Bailiwick in recent years, struck by the Royal Mint on contract. Guernsey's status as a Crown dependency — not part of the UK but owing allegiance to the Crown — gives it the right to issue its own coinage, a privilege it has exploited with increasing commercial creativity.
