Reverse description Four calling birds depicted in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field, illustrating the fourth day of Christmas from the traditional English carol. The composition features three large birds — appearing as geese or swans with outstretched wings — alongside a peacock whose elaborately detailed tail feathers extend across the right portion of the field. A small heart motif appears to the left, pine cones and foliage are rendered in the lower field, and the Pobjoy Mint mark (PM) appears at the base of the design. The legend CHRISTMAS arcs across the upper periphery, with the denomination numeral 50 displayed prominently at the bottom.
