Obverse description The fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicts the monarch as a right-facing draped bust adorned with a tiara and wearing pearl earrings. The legend encircles the portrait, reading 'ISLE OF MAN ELIZABETH II' along the upper periphery, with the date '2002' positioned in the lower field beneath the effigy. The initials 'IRB' appear on the truncation of the bust.

Reverse description The reverse depicts a scene from Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol', showing Ebenezer Scrooge seated in bed, surrounded by the Three Spirits of Christmas — the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the chained figure of Jacob Marley's ghost — rendered in high relief against a darkened field. The legend 'CHRISTMAS' arcs boldly along the upper periphery in large raised letters, while the denomination numeral '50' appears in the lower exergue. Designer's initials 'GM' are visible to the lower right of the central design.
