| Reverse description | The classical allegorical figure of Britannia is depicted seated in profile facing right, holding a trident and shield in her right hand and an olive branch extended in her left, symbolising maritime power and peace. A lion is couched at her feet, reinforcing the emblematic imagery of British sovereignty. The design, engraved by Christopher Ironside, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the decimal 50 pence coin introduced in 1969. The legend NEW PENCE 50 appears with flanking letters A through G, along with privy marks positioned to the right of the denomination and on the rim. |
