Jersey issued this piece as part of a broader commemorative program marking the 70th anniversary of the island's liberation from German occupation in May 1945. Jersey's wartime experience was distinct from mainland Britain's — the Channel Islands were the only British territory occupied by Nazi Germany, and civilians there endured five years of requisitioning, forced labor deportations, and severe food shortages rather than the aerial bombardment the "Blitz" title evokes.
The nominal face value of 50 pence is purely ceremonial on a gold-plated steel collector piece of this weight.
