Jersey's 2016 Bayeux Tapestry series spread the embroidery's narrative across multiple 50p designs, each isolating a specific scene. This piece focuses on Leofwine and Gyrth, two of Harold II's brothers who died at Hastings on 14 October 1066 — their deaths depicted in the tapestry itself, making this one of the few coins in the series to commemorate men shown dying on the source artifact.
The tapestry was almost certainly commissioned by Odo of Bayeux, William's half-brother, in the years immediately following the conquest.
