Jersey issued a series of 50p pieces in 2016 commemorating the 950th anniversary of the Norman Conquest, with each coin capturing a distinct scene from the Bayeux Tapestry — an embroidered linen strip roughly 70 metres long, likely commissioned by Odo of Bayeux within two decades of the battle itself. The Tapestry's exact origin remains debated, but the leading theory places its production in an English workshop, almost certainly in Canterbury, which makes it a peculiar artifact: a Norman propaganda piece almost certainly made by the conquered.
