Jersey's 2016 Bayeux Tapestry series parceled the embroidery's 70-meter narrative across multiple fifty pence issues, each isolating a single panel. The tapestry itself was almost certainly commissioned by Odo, Bishop of Bayeux — half-brother to William the Conqueror — likely within a decade of the 1066 conquest, probably for the consecration of Bayeux Cathedral in 1077.
The blessing scene depicted here is one of several in the embroidery where ecclesiastical authority is made conspicuously visible alongside military action, reflecting Odo's dual role as both bishop and battlefield commander at Hastings.
