| Reverse description | The reverse features a full-colour photographic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, smiling and wearing a blue hat and matching blue coat, occupying the right portion of the field. To the upper left, the large numeral '90' is rendered in raised gold-toned lettering against a dark background, commemorating the Queen's 90th birthday. The inscription HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II is displayed in three lines in the lower left field. The combination of colour printing and gold-plated relief creates a vivid, contemporary commemorative design. |

| Additional information |
Guernsey has issued commemorative 50 pence pieces well outside the standard UK specifications for decades, a consequence of the island's status as a Crown Dependency with its own currency authority entirely separate from the Royal Mint. The 90th birthday issue appeared alongside a flood of similar pieces from Jersey, the Isle of Man, and various Commonwealth territories — the market for royal commemoratives in gold-plated base metal was, by 2016, thoroughly saturated.
Elizabeth II turned 90 on 21 April 2016, though official national celebrations were scheduled for June to improve the odds of tolerable weather.
