VE Day — 8 May 1945 — held particular weight for Guernsey, which had spent five years under German occupation, the only part of the British Isles to endure it. Liberation came on 9 May, one day after the general European ceasefire, a distinction the island has always maintained. This commemorative series spans six KM numbers, suggesting a multi-coin set rather than a single release — a format Guernsey has leaned on heavily since the 1990s to drive collector revenue.
Gold-plated copper has no legal tender weight in practice; these were never intended for circulation.
