Aanvullende informatie

V.E. Day was marked on 8 May 1945 when Germany's unconditional surrender took effect in Europe, but for Jersey the date carried a particular weight — the island had been under German occupation since July 1940, one of the only British territories to fall. Liberation came on 9 May 1945, a day Jersey still observes separately as Liberation Day. The 75th anniversary commemorations in 2020 were largely cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, making this issue a rare case where the coin outlasted the public events it was struck to accompany.
