Reverse description Central design features a large stylised numeral 75, with the Guernsey coat of arms — bearing three lions passant — incorporated within the upper arc of the figure. Flanking the numeral are sprays of flowering plants rendered in naturalistic relief. A decorative ribbon banner across the lower field carries the inscription LIBERATION in bold raised lettering. The commemorative date range 1945-2020 is inscribed along the upper margin of the field, marking the 75th anniversary of Liberation Day and the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Additional information

V.E. Day fell on 8 May 1945, but for the Channel Islands the liberation came a day later — 9 May 1945 — when German forces on Guernsey and Jersey formally surrendered after nearly five years of occupation, the only British territories to have been held by Nazi Germany during the war. Guernsey has marked that date as Liberation Day ever since, giving this anniversary particular local weight rather than the purely ceremonial significance it carries elsewhere in the Commonwealth.
