| Additional information |
63 Squadron RAF was formed in 1916 and spent much of its early existence as a reserve and training unit rather than a front-line outfit — an unglamorous but operationally critical role that kept it active through both world wars and into the jet age. Guernsey's commemorative coinage program has leaned heavily on British military subjects since the 1990s, producing gold-plated copper issues in volume for the collector market rather than circulation.
The .999 gold plating on copper blanks places this firmly in the modern souvenir-grade category.
