Reverse description The reverse displays a section of the Royal Shield of Arms, specifically the first and fourth quarters showing the three golden lions passant guardant of England, rendered in fine detail against a finely granulated field, with the shield's distinctive scalloped border visible along the lower edge. The design forms part of Matthew Dent's jigsaw Royal Arms series, in which segments of the shield appear on individual denominations. The denomination 'FIFTY PENCE' is inscribed in raised capital letters along the base of the design within a plain rectangular panel. The designer's initials 'M.D' appear discreetly in the lower right of the field.
