The Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle 50p was part of the Royal Mint's Beatrix Potter series issued in 2016 to mark the 150th anniversary of Potter's birth. The series proved so popular that several designs sold out within hours of release, and the coins circulated heavily enough that finding uncirculated examples became genuinely difficult in the months following issue. Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle — the hedgehog washerwoman drawn from a real hedgehog Potter kept as a pet — appeared alongside Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, and Squirrel Nutkin in the inaugural four-coin release.
