| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse, designed by Andrew Ross and Deborah Osborne, presents a striking graphic composition commemorating the life and achievements of television pioneer John Logie Baird. A series of concentric circular rings, evoking both broadcast signal waves and a television screen viewed head-on, radiates outward from a central point in the field. A stylised transmission mast is depicted vertically at the centre, its base positioned at the lower edge of the innermost ring. Key biographical milestones are inscribed along each successive ring, reading outward: 1888 John Logie Baird born, 1906 Studies engineering, 1926 Demonstrates analogue television, 1928 First transatlantic transmission, and 1946 John Logie Baird dies. Issued to mark the centenary of Baird's first successful television transmission experiments, which he conducted in a Hastings attic workshop in 1923 using a collection of salvaged components including a tea chest, hat box, and bicycle light lenses. He demonstrated moving silhouette images — not yet true television — before relocating to London and achieving the first true greyscale image transmission in 1926 at his Soho laboratory. The BBC, which would later depend entirely on his system, initially dismissed him as a crank.
