The fifth portrait of Elizabeth II, sculpted by Jody Clark and introduced in 2015, was the first royal effigy selected without the Queen's personal approval — a break from the convention she herself had maintained since 1952. Whether this departure was practical or political has never been fully clarified by the Palace or the Mint.
