| Description du revers | The reverse, designed by artist Tom Phillips, commemorates the 250th anniversary of Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language (1755) by reproducing dictionary entries directly on the coin's field in period-appropriate typography. Across multiple lines, the denomination is defined: '·50·' appears at the top, followed by 'FI'FTY. adj. s. [ƑiƑtiʒ, Saxon.' in mixed roman and Old English letterforms, then 'PENCE. n. s.' and 'plural of penny' in bold display type. At the base, the inscription 'JOHNSON'S DICTIONARY 1755' is engraved in smaller lettering, with the engraver's initials TP appearing centrally below.
