| Reverse description | A equestrian figure is depicted in dynamic profile, showing a rider mounted on a horse leaping over a fence, evoking the equestrian disciplines of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The official London 2012 Games logo appears in the upper field above the jumping composition. The denomination is inscribed in the lower field, with the word LONDON above it. The design is contained within the heptagonal coin format. |

| Additional information |
The "Equestrian" 50p was issued to mark the London 2012 Olympic Games, part of a 29-coin sports series that became the largest and most ambitious commemorative programme the Royal Mint had ever undertaken for a single event. Public demand was extreme enough that the Royal Mint sold out individual designs within hours of release, and secondary market premiums on certain low-mintage sports pieces ran well beyond face value almost immediately.
The football design from the same series was briefly recalled after a rules dispute over goalkeeper positioning — the only withdrawal of an Olympic 50p from circulation.
