Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, adorned with pearls and floral motifs, with curled hair, drop earring, and a pearl necklace, as modelled by Raphael David Maklouf — his third definitive portrait of the Queen for British coinage. The truncation bears the engraver's initials RDM. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II to the left and D·G·REG·F·D· to the right, with the date 1997 positioned at the lower right, all in raised Latin lettering against a polished proof field.
