| Obverse lettering | ELIZABETH·II D·G·REG·F·D·2021 50 PENCE (Translation: Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith) |
| Reverse description | The reverse, designed by Dominique Evans and signed with the initials DME in the right field, commemorates the 50th anniversary of Decimalisation Day on 15 February 1971. The composition presents a collage of overlapping pre-decimal British coins rendered in low relief across the field, with partial inscriptions and design elements — including a Shilling bearing Britannia, a Half Crown with heraldic lions, and a Penny with a Tudor crown — visible as curved coin edges receding into the background. At the centre, a heptagonal cartouche in higher relief bears the commemorative inscription 1971 DECIMAL DAY in two lines, echoing the shape of the coin itself. The artful layering of archaic numismatic imagery serves as a visual bridge between the pre-decimal and decimal eras of British coinage. |
