Obverse description Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in intaglio engraving occupies the right portion of the note within an oval guilloche frame, rendered in violet on a pale underprint. To the left, a scenic vignette illustrates the harbour of Jamestown with a sailing vessel at sea and the island's characteristic rocky cliffs in the background. The denomination numeral '50p' appears in a bold panel at lower left, with a multicolour rosette guilloche underprint at centre bearing three manuscript signatures above the CURRENCY COMMISSIONERS inscription.

Reverse description The left half of the reverse carries an intaglio vignette of the East India Company arms, showing two rampant lions as supporters flanking a quartered shield with two flag-bearing staffs, set above a ribbon bearing the motto; a fine guilloche border surrounds the panel. To the right, the colonial seal of Saint Helena is rendered within an ornate cartouche, enclosing a vignette of a sailing ship at sea before a rocky outcrop. The denomination '50p' appears in large numerals at centre between the two armorial vignettes, all printed in violet.
