50 Pence - Elizabeth II

The Falkland Islands Currency Ordinance of 1899 pegged the local currency to sterling at par, a relationship that held without disruption through the entire twentieth century. These early decimal notes — introduced ahead of the UK's own decimalisation in February 1971 — meant the Falklands briefly ran a decimal pound before the mother country did.

De La Rue's production for this series was modest by any measure; the islands' population hovered around two thousand throughout this period, so print runs were small and attrition through normal circulation was slow. Survivors in heavily circulated condition are actually harder to locate than cleaner examples.
