| Reverse description | The reverse features a faithful high-relief rendition of the world's first adhesive postage stamp, the Penny Black of 1840, centrally positioned on the heptagonal flan. Within the stamp design, a left-facing portrait of Queen Victoria in profile appears at centre, surrounded by an ornate engine-turned border with star corner ornaments. The word POSTAGE appears at the top of the stamp and ONE PENNY at the bottom, with plate-position letters E and F in the lower corners. The stamp image is set within a dark recessed field, and the surrounding coin legends — including the anniversary inscription and denomination — are distributed across the upper and lower margins of the heptagonal border. |
